Come with your team to the Casa de Buen Trato Hovde!

On this service and relationship-oriented trip, you and your team will dive deeper into the call to do justice through practical work around the shelter, learning about Paz y Esperanza’s response to injustice, and, most importantly, loving and playing with children and adolescents whose joy defies their circumstances!

The Casa de Buen Trato Hovde is a refuge and transition home to forty women, children, and adolescents who have been victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence.  At the shelter, they receive protection, emotional support, education, spiritual guidance, and legal defense.  The women and children carry such painful pasts with them to the shelter.  Even though the past suffering does not disappear, the shelter is a place of surpassing joy, loving support, and life-changing healing.  Come and be a part of the change!

As a team, you could be…

  • Participate in recreational activities with the women and children, including sports, crafts, and teamwork-building games
  • Visit the homes of women and children who have left the shelter to learn about the reintegration process
  • Conduct an activity-focused English camp and/or Bible school for the children
  • Help in small-scale construction, gardening, and painting projects around the shelter
  • Learn about Paz y Esperanza´s fight for justice in Huánuco through office visits, group talk, and personal conversations
  • Lead a health campaign at the shelter (*medical experience required)

The actual activities of your team will determined according to the interests and experiences of the group and the needs of the office.  All details concerning schedule, transportation, housing, materials, and food will be coordinated by the Andemos staff. A staff member will accompany your team throughout your stay in Peru. The team will fly into and leave out of Lima and will travel to Huánuco by bus or plane*.  For a detailed day-to-day itinerary or more information, please contact us at

* Choosing to fly to Huanuco will add an extra $150/person to the cost of the trip.

Kelley’s Story

“I didn't know the extent to which this trip would impact me until the last day on the way to the airport when I turned to my friend and started crying. I said something along the lines of, ‘I’m sorry, you know I rarely cry, but I am flooded with so many emotions.  I just don’t know what else to do but cry.’ Being exposed to and immersed in another culture, especially one full of poverty and injustice, just changes you. I will be forever changed because of this trip and I am so grateful because of it.”
